NEWS: Okonjo-Iweala's Nomination as DG of World Trade Organization accepted

The World Trade Organisation (WTO) has accepted the nomination of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as one of the candidates for the office of the director-general of the organisation. “Nigeria, on 9 June 2020, nominated Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for the post of WTO Director-General to succeed the current Director-General, Mr Roberto Azevêdo, who has announced he will step down on 31 August 2020,” the organisation said  When President Muhammadu Buhari endorsed Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for the World Trade Organisation (WTO) top job, Egypt went on the offensive. Egypt argued that the executive decision of the African Union (AU) which had set a deadline of November 30, 2019 for African countries to nominate candidates had been violated. They claimed Iweala’s nomination was late and should not be recognised. The WTO however said on Tuesday that nominations are still open till July 8, 2020.

JUSTIN: FG lifts ban on religious gatherings

The federal government has lifted the ban on religious gatherings across the country. The government had imposed the ban two months ago to check the spread of coronavirus. But at the briefing of the presidential task force (PTF) on COVID-19 on Monday, Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation and chairman of the PTF, announced that President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the relaxation of the ban for four weeks. “The PTF submitted its recommendations and the PRESIDENT has approved the following for implementation over the next four weeks spanning 2nd – 29th June 2020, subject to review-: “Cautious advance into the Second Phase of the national response to COVID-19; application of science and data to guide the targeting of areas of on-going high transmission of COVID-19 in the country; “Mobilisation of all resources at State and Local Government levels to create public awareness on COVID 19 and improve compliance with non-pharmaceutical interventions within communities

COVID-19: Nigerians react as NCDC records the highest number of coronavirus cases today.

Nigerians blast Federal Government after Nigeria recorded 553 more COVID-19 cases on Saturday, which is the highest numbersingle-day. NCDC released the numbers on their official Twitter account which takes the country’s total infections to 9,855 few numbers from reaching 10,000, out of which 2856 have been discharged with 273 losing their lives due to the virus. Lagos continued to be the epicentre of the disease as they recorded the highest number yet again. "553 new cases of #COVID19; Lagos-378, FCT-52, Delta-23, Edo-22, Rivers-14, Ogun-13, Kaduna-12, Kano-9, Borno-7, Katsina-6, Jigawa-5, Oyo-5, Yobe-3, Plateau-3, Osun-1," NCDC stated on their Twitter page. "9855 cases of #COVID19Nigeria, Discharged: 2856, Deaths: 273." Some Nigerians believed the Government are not being real with the numbers they released.
