Nigerians blast Federal Government after Nigeria recorded 553 more COVID-19 cases on Saturday, which is the highest numbersingle-day. NCDC released the numbers on their official Twitter account which takes the country’s total infections to 9,855 few numbers from reaching 10,000, out of which 2856 have been discharged with 273 losing their lives due to the virus. Lagos continued to be the epicentre of the disease as they recorded the highest number yet again. "553 new cases of #COVID19; Lagos-378, FCT-52, Delta-23, Edo-22, Rivers-14, Ogun-13, Kaduna-12, Kano-9, Borno-7, Katsina-6, Jigawa-5, Oyo-5, Yobe-3, Plateau-3, Osun-1," NCDC stated on their Twitter page. The Federal Government has disclosed that another batch of Nigerian evacuees arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport from China on Saturday, swelling the number of  Nigerians that have so far returned home from different parts of the world following the the Covid-19 pandemic. Minister of Foreign Affairs Geoffrey Onyeama made this known on Saturday through his verified Twitter handle @GeoffreyOnyeama, adding that all the evacuees will go on the 14-day quarantine stipulated by the Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC). To the relief of residents of Ogun State, Gov Dapo Abiodun on Thursday night said that the eight weeks partial lockdown of the state as part of measures adopted to curb Covid-19 pandemic will now only hold on weekends, Saturdays and Sundays precisely. Gov Abiodun stated that the implication of this is that while the residents of the state could before now only transact businesses on three days of the week, that is Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6 am to 5pm, they are now to run their business activities unhindered from Monday to Friday with exception of Saturdays and Sundays beginning from Monday June 1st. The governor said that the presidential directive of curfew beginning from 8 pm still subsisted while further arrangement on opening of places of worship was still being fine-tuned. Nigerian singer,  Simi  and her husband,  Adekunle Gold  have reportedly welcomed their first child in the United States of America. The report which was first published by blogger, SDK on her blog, alleged that the duo welcomed their baby before Simi released her “Duduke” video. The federal government has kicked off the employment process of 774,000 Nigerians in a Special Public Works programme recently approved by President Muhammadu Buhari. The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, on Thursday, convened a press briefing to update prospective candidates on the criteria that would determine the selection of persons. At the ongoing briefing which began at about 11 a.m. at the federal secretariat, Abuja, Keyamo would also explain how the federal government intends to execute the programme. President Buhari had approved the initiative to help cushion the effect of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on Nigerians. The Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, had announced in April that the president had approved N60 billion for allowances and operational cost for the initiative. Ahmed had said 1,000 Nigerians would be engaged from each of the 774 local government areas in the country.

Nigeria ’s Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed has revealed that 57% of the Nigerian Populace supported the Ease of  Lockdown  in Lagos, Ogun and Abuja. The  Presidency  has released the actions and measures being taken by President Muhammadu Buhari to reduce the suffering of  Nigerians  after the COVID-19 pandemic. On Wednesday, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Youth Task Force on COVID-19 advised President Muhammadu Buhari to lockdown Abuja again to curtail further spread of the Covid-19. In the same vein, Itsey Sagay, Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), called on President Buhari to lockdown Nigeria for two months. According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on Saturday night, of the total 2388 coronavirus infections reported in the country, 1068 cases were recorded in Lagos with about 30 attendant fatalities and 247 recoveries, the highest by any state in Nigeria. The head of emergencies at the World Health Organisation has reiterated that the group believes the  novel coronavirus  is "natural in origin". Dr Michael Ryan responded today to comments by US President Donald Trump, who said he has seen information that the virus may have emerged from a virology institute in China. Ryan said WHO teams have listened "again and again" to many scientists who have looked at the gene sequences and the virus, "and we are assured that this virus is natural in origin".
