WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ADSORPTION OF GASES BY SOLIDS

The phenomenon of adsorption should not be confused with adsorption which refers to one material passing into the bulk of another. For example, water is adsorbed by a sponge and water vapours are adsorbed by anhydrous calcium chloride.
The term Sorption is used which includes both adsorption and absorption like the process where water vapours are adsorbed by silica gel and acetic which is. adsorption or absorption.

When solids are allowed to remain in contact with a gas, a film of gas molecules accummulates on the surface. Solid and liquid surfaces, therefore, have a tendency to satisfy their residual forces by attracting onto and retaining on their surfaces, molecules of gases or other substances with which they come in contact. This results in higher concentration of molecules on the surface of a solid or liquid than in the bulk of the medium. This phenomenon is known as ADSORPTION.
The substance in which the adsorption takes place is know ADSORBENT and tye substance which is adsorbed in known as ADSORBATE.

Nigerian singer Davido,The DMW boss has announced his upcoming new song featuring American female rapper Nicki Minaj. Davido  is definitely not stopping anytime soon with his penetration of International Market as he is set to feature the huge American Female star. The DMW boss took to his Twitter handle today to announce the coming of a song he already recorded with  Nicki Minaj  which is produced by Speroach Davido also announced that he would be releasing his third studio album titled “A Better Time” in July. The new album would come barely eight months after the release of his second studio album titled “A Good Time”. A Good Time was released on November 22, 2019, through Davido Music Worldwide, RCA Records and Sony Music. The album featured American superstar Chris Brown and Jamaican singer Popcaan, among others.

A mass spectrometer consists of three components: an ion source, a mass analyzer, and a detector.  The  ionizer  converts a portion of the sample into ions. There is a wide variety of ionization techniques, depending on the phase (solid, liquid, gas) of the sample and the efficiency of various ionization mechanisms for the unknown species. An extraction system removes ions from the sample, which are then targeted through the mass analyzer and into the  detector . The differences in masses of the fragments allows the mass analyzer to sort the ions by their mass-to-charge ratio. The detector measures the value of an indicator quantity and thus provides data for calculating the abundances of each ion present. Some detectors also give spatial information, e.g., a multichannel plate. A mass spectrum is a plot of the ion signal as a function of the mass-to-charge ratio. These spectra are used to determine the elemental or  isotopic signature  of a sample, the masses of particles
